Alexsis Johnson

Alexsis Johnson serves as a Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF).  Prior to joining LDF, Alexsis served as a law clerk to the Honorable Cornelia T.L. Pillard on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the Honorable Margo K. Brodie on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.  Alexsis previously worked as an associate in the Complex litigation and Trials group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP where she litigated complex commercial and securities matters and issues related to foreign sovereign immunity.  Prior to becoming a lawyer, Alexsis worked as an Associate Publicist at Scribner, a book publisher specializing in literary fiction.

Alexsis received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a James Kent scholar, a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar, and an Essays and Reviews Editor for the Columbia Law Review.  She was awarded Columbia Law School’s Pauline Berman Heller Prize for achievement related to gender equality and the Valentin J.T. Wertheimer Prize in labor law.  Alexsis received her B.A in English Literature from Yale University.  She is a member of the New York State Bar.
