Molly Cain

Molly Cain joined LDF as the John Payton Appellate and Supreme Court Advocacy Fellow in 2022. Prior to joining LDF, Molly served as a law clerk to the Honorable Carlton W. Reeves on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi and to the Honorable Henry F. Floyd on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Molly received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a Karsh Dillard Scholar, a member of the Raven Society, and was named a Ritter Scholar. At UVA Law, she was a member of the Appellate Litigation Clinic and helped secure a win for an incarcerated client who brought Eighth Amendment excessive force claims at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Additionally, she was a member of the Civil Rights Clinic and served incarcerated clients as part of an Eighth Amendment case under a consent decree. She also organized law students to do voter protection work and was a quarterfinalist in the William Minor Lile Moot Court competition.

Prior to law school, Molly was a Senior Researcher at the Center for American Progress. She graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Economics with distinction and earned a secondary major in Public Policy. At Stanford, she was in the Public Service Honor Society. Molly is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and Virginia.
