Today, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) joined the Christian Ministerial Alliance and the Arkansas Community Institute in sending a letter to Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston. The letter urged that Secretary Thurston issue guidance and administrative rules to ensure every eligible voter in Arkansas is able to safely vote in the March 31, 2020 runoff election in the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic. The letter requested he assist voters in complying with social distancing guidelines and burdened by county courthouse and polling place closures, extend the absentee ballot request deadline for mail, fax, or email applications to at least March 30, accept absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day (March 31) and received within 10 days of Election Day, among other measures.
