The NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc. (LDF) submitted a letter to officials in Hazlehurst, GA requesting they reopen Precinct 1 Polling Place. The letter urges them to approve this reopening during Jeff Davis County election officials’ upcoming meeting on June 18, 2019. We support this reopening because its closure and resulting distance voters have been forced to travel puts an unnecessary burden on Black voters.
“All qualified voters should have equal access to the fundamental right to vote, regardless of their race or ethnicity,” said Leah Aden, Deputy Director of Litigation at LDF. “Sadly, polling place decisions by Georgia counties in past years have often sent the opposite message.”
