Today, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc (LDF) and fifteen other organizations sent a letter to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis urging him to issue an Executive Order to take critical steps to ensure that the November 3rd Election is conducted as safely as possible amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.  Detailed within the letter, we are urging Governor DeSantis to:

      • Expand the Use of Vote-by-Mail Drop Boxes
      • Temporarily Expand Hours and Dates of Early Voting
      • Temporarily Allow Vote-By-Mail Ballots to be Counted if Mailed by the Close of Polls and Received Within Five Days of the General Election

Founded in 1940, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the nation’s first civil and human rights law organization. LDF has been completely separate from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) since 1957—although LDF was originally founded by the NAACP and shares its commitment to equal rights. LDF’s Thurgood Marshall Institute is a multi-disciplinary and collaborative hub within LDF that launches targeted campaigns and undertakes innovative research to shape the civil rights narrative.
